TV special airs Saturday, April 21, 2018 at 11:30 a.m. on the CW network Channel 39 in Houston
HOUSTON, TX – April 17, 2018 – As the most diverse city in the nation, Houston serves as an example of inclusion for the rest of the country. Business of Diversity: Spotlight on Houston is a 30-minute TV special produced by Misty Blue Media, a local television production and digital media company. The show premieres Saturday, April 21 at 11:30 a.m. on the KIAH-TV Channel 39, the CW Network. Misty Blue Media CEO Misty Starks and public relations veteran Phyllis J. Bailey are the executive producers.
Through one-on-one interviews, Business of Diversity: Spotlight on Houston takes a look at how some of the most prominent organizations in the city address diversity and inclusion from a business standpoint. Marti Powers (Shell Oil), James Harris (H-E-B), John Rolfe (Houston First), and Cesar Maldonado (Houston Community College) appear alongside Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner to give insight on the topic. Former KHOU-TV morning news anchor Lily Jang serves as the show’s host.
“It is unfortunate that our society has not resolved the issue of inequality in 2018, but we know there are some companies that are getting it right. We felt it was important to recognize them and hopefully provide a roadmap for other entities to follow suit,” Bailey said.
With 2.3 million residents, Houston is the nation’s fourth largest city. Its residents speak 145 languages, and there are more than 10,000 restaurants representing over 70 countries. Houston was named America’s most diverse city in 2017, with Fort Bend County being the most diverse county in the nation. The Bayou City is also home to the second highest number of Fortune 1000 companies.
“It’s our hope that by highlighting the diversity efforts of these companies and institutions, more leaders in the corporate space will see the importance of inclusion to company culture as well as the bottom line,” Starks said.
